POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Kelvin Smith Library seeks an archivist to join the Scholarly Resources and Special Collections team, which is dedicated to the preservation and description of, and providing access to our unique and distinctive collections. The archivist will use ArchivesSpace collection management system and Aeon automated request and workflow management system. Working within a collaborative small team setting, the archivist will provide public services to our community of users (which includes students, faculty, and researchers worldwide), including research, reference, and instruction related to our collections. The archivist will also participate in team- and library-wide initiatives, outreach efforts, and events.

ESSENTIALS FUNCTIONS
• Physical arrangement and description of archival collections and creating associated resource records and finding aids in ArchivesSpace. This includes processing (appraisal, arrangement, description, preservation) of collections in all formats. (25%)
• Participate as part of the team in operationalizing our ArchivesSpace system by contributing to the development of workflows, practices, and documentation. (10%)
• Provide in person and virtual reference assistance as part of a reference team. This includes interviewing users to determine information needs; conducting manual records searches; summarizing research; compiling factual data; identifying and explaining precedents, exceptions, and trends; providing instruction on sources and research methodology to users. (30%)
• Provide instruction and workshops, both curricular and extra-curricular, for CWRU faculty, staff, and students, and for affiliated institutions as required. (20%)
• Oversee the work of student assistants. (10%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintain an active professional development program, identifying and participating in appropriate organizations and initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)
CONTACTS
Department: The Archivist has regular contact with the both the team leader and the rest of the Scholarly Resources & Special Collections team, as part of a tightly knit group providing a wide range of services related to the collections. The Archivist will have moderate contact with staff on all levels of the organization to support the provision of library services.
University: Regular contact with stakeholders invested in the collections to be processed, including donors and users. Regular contact with faculty in work related to reference and instruction.
External: Regular contact with researchers who are external to the university. Participates in local, regional and national organizations to maintain a network of informational professionals.
Student: Regular contact with student assistants; regular contact with students through instruction and reference duties.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY.
This position has no formal supervisory responsibility, but will direct the work of student assistants.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Some experience processing archival collections.
Education: A Master’s degree in Library with archival concentration; or Master of Archival Studies; or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with archival concentration. Preferred: Certified Archivist by the Academy of Certified Archivists
